Rosetta West
Gravity Sessions
Rosetta West have always gone their own way. Since forming in Illinois in the 1990s, the band has followed a path that’s less about visibility and more about staying true to what moves them. Their music infuses bluesy rock with touches of psychedelia, folk, it has a kind of quiet mysticism that’s hard to pin down. It’s a sound that doesn’t sit neatly in any one category, and that’s part of the appeal.
Their latest release, Gravity Sessions, brings things back to basics. Recorded over a few days at Gravity Studios in Chicago, these tracks offer a stripped-down look at the band’s core. Most of it was captured live, with longtime collaborator Doug McBride at the board. There’s no polish here, just a natural groove and the sound of three musicians working in sync.

Joseph Demagore leads the sessions with his unmistakable voice and guitar work, joined by bassist Herf Guderian and drummer Mike Weaver — both steady hands who know how to leave space where it matters. The songs feel lived in, never rushed.
A new video for “Dora Lee (Gravity)” is up now, and more releases are expected soon. As always, Rosetta West continue to sidestep the usual routes. For those willing to look beyond the surface, they’re still offering something worth hearing.
