ALEX TOLM
Présence Absente
Belgian independent artist Alex Tolm has just released his brand new full-length album, Présence Absente. The album is a collection of very catchy, electro-pop tracks full of emotion, from heavy bass-driven tracks like Danse sans moi (Dance Without Me), that make it impossible to keep your feet still while listening to it, to uplifting melodies like Tout va bien (t'inquiète), which is one of the many highlights of the album along with the brilliant À côté de moi.
Alex created the album by drawing on his own life experience and put those feelings, memories and emotions into crafting songs that will not only relay those experiences but will also easily resonate with others.

About Présence Absente, Alex said: "This album is a cohesive, piano-driven journey through themes of absence, memory, and the human habit of holding onto connections that have shifted over time." From the perspective of a non French speaking music fan, I can say that I felt that the way that Alex has been able to translate the feeling of an emotion into music regardless of the language it is sung in is incredibly clever.
Mixing the traditions of French-language songwriting with modern day alt-pop and synth-driven elements, Tolm has managed to create a record that is not only technically brilliant but also very emotionally grounded. The mix of spoken word elements and the slow beat of the title track, the dark-pop-infused atmospheric Présence Absente, is a testament to this.
It is great to see that the independent music scene in Belgium is as strong as it is vibrant, and with Alex Tolm adding to that with this great new album, it looks and sounds like creativity, talent and enthusiasm for great music are alive and well. You can check the record out for yourself right now.
