Artist Spotlight: Discovering Your Next Favourite Metal and Post-Punk Obsession

By David Weddle
Exploring the raw talent and resonant stories of the independent music scene.
Today we are shining a light on three phenomenal new discoveries that completely throw out clinical, over-polished production in favor of pure sonic force: Subsonic Night Shift, Dolours, and TopTierTitan.

The music of Subsonic Night Shift is a potent elixir, especially on their new single “Closed Eyes”, a harrowing, unflinching dive into the very core of the human condition. Written by underground veterans Zvonko Hvizdak (bass), Rat Westlake (guitars) and Göran Florström (vocals), “Closed Eyes” details how our innermost fears can be manipulated to our downfall.

Musically the song hurtles the listener into the dark, heavy world of the track, the supernova heavy, powerful riffs meeting a dense, driving bassline and foreboding, commanding vocals that seem to emanate from the very depths of space. A raw, apocalyptic number that has no time for compromise or distraction.

London’s latest post-punk exports Dolours launch themselves into the underground circuit with the stunning debut single ‘Blunt’. A chaotic collision of the best post-punk, the most abrasive noise rock and the darkest aspects of alternative music, ‘Blunt’ is a swirling, often tense yet always cathartic song that embodies the band’s writing as a pure distillation of anger and stress.

‘Blunt’ was recorded in a variety of lo-fi locations – bedrooms, garages, independent studios – by the band themselves in a DIY spirit that is as fierce as it is genuine. A driven rhythm section, the crunching basslines and snarling, abrasive guitars combine to craft a relentless atmosphere of growing tension that reaches a beautiful, explosive climax.

TopTierTitan brings a stunning, cinematic heavy fusion sound to life with their huge new single “Nach Naal”. The song is a genre-defying piece of modern alternative metal mixed with South Asian and Punjabi cultural elements. After an otherworldly electronic intro the song explodes at the 1:28 mark into a wall of heavy guitars and powerful, driving cultural rhythms.

Fans of Bloodywood and their fusion of folk and heavy metal, Bring Me The Horizon and their constant genre-bending, as well as the likes of The HU and Bad Omens will love this song’s unique blend of cultural identity and high energy rock to create the ultimate unexpected metal experience.
