By David Weddle
Exploring the raw talent and resonant stories of the independent music scene.
It is an exciting time for new music currently. With our regular spotlight articles, we love to highlight a massive variety of independent acts from across the musical spectrum. Today we are diving into three incredible projects that swap rigid, over-polished production for pure, raw human energy: Black Steam, RewØund, and Ghost Avenue.

Swedish heavy metal outfit Black Steam are back with their heaviest power ballad to date. 'Word Unspoken' reveals a darker and deeply reflective side to the band's sound. It moves easily between vulnerability and immense power, with heavy as hell riffs and sweeping symphonic elements.

Adding a spectacular layer of cinematic drama to the track's dark atmosphere is a featured cello performance by Svante Henryson, highly regarded for his legendary work with Yngwie Malmsteen. It is a masterfully crafted metal climax.

From the heart of Illinois, independent producer and sound engineer RewØund has been working on smashing traditional genre boundaries. Choosing to bring together the aggressive elements of Metalcore and the mechanical edge of Indeustrial music, RewØund mixes that with the pulsating energy of EDM to create a very distinctive sound.

The latest single 'Major Leagues' is fresh, forwarding looking track that showcases RewØund skills and also features guest vocals from Coleman Bryce. Taking on complex themes of mental health the friction of society in the modern world, RewØund has delivered a raw and aggressive track that has a story that will resonate with fans of EDM and metal fans alike.

Ghost Avenue has been proudly flying the flag for traditional 80s heavy metal since 2002, growing their following from the suburbs of Oslo, Norway. The band has been finely tuning their hard hitting riffs and screaming twin guitar solos and bring a fresh approach to the classic energy of the genre.

Their blistering new single 'Killer' is a high octane, larger than life first look at their highly anticipated fifth studio album, Full Throttle which is out later this month. If this track is anything to go by, we are in for a real treat when the new album drops but in the meantime, give 'Killer' a spin.
