It is an exciting time for new music currently, and with our regular spotlight articles, we highlight a huge variety of artists from across every imaginable genre for you to discover. Today we shine the spotlight on three compelling independent acts who know exactly how to blend genre-spanning energy with vivid, conceptual storytelling: Thirsty Curses, Grant Morriss and Lost in the City
First up is Thirsty Curses, an eclectic rock project based in Raleigh, North Carolina, centered around the sharp songwriting of Wilson Getchell. Drawing from a massive pool of influences including punk, alt-country, classic rock, and power pop.
Their upcoming single, “Memphis,” is an absolute blast of an old-timey sounding rock n' roll tune that playfully deifies Elvis. Getchell handles guitar, keys, bass, and vocals, backed by JD Dizzy on drums and a full brass section featuring Nic Weaver on trumpet, saxophone, and trombone. It is a fantastic showcase of the project's rotating cast of brilliant studio collaborators.

Switching it up a bit now to a darker, more volatile edgy sound. We have UK-UAE based songrwriter Grant Morriss and his latest single, 'Worlds Collid'. It is an integral part of a much larger concept project that explores a single yet chaotic night in a city falling apart.
'Worlds Collide' is a stellar blend of alt-rock and emo sounds that explores tough subjects, from attraction and dishonesty to emotional overload and the inevitable fallout of a spiraling night out. The track features layered guitars with a pop-punk energy mixed with modern alternative rock. Grant really knows how to build the tension before bursting in to the hook driven chorus. It definitely matches the subject perfectly.

Finally, we end with a surge of high octane emotion from Lost in the City. A Kansas City pop punk band that enthusiastically built their sound with a good dose of nostalgia and a ton of fresh energy. They have only recently come together but they sound like they have been jamming for years as a band.
The latest track, 'Say Anything' is great example of their heartfelt ethos in action. It is a very poignant reflection on the lives we don't live. A very profound subject, talking about alternate versions of ourselves standing at the end of every road we didn't take, looking happier, haunted or just different. It is the tale of lives not lived and looking at not just what does change if you choose a different path, but also looking at the parts of us that survive regardless of where you end up. A very interesting concept and a stunning track with a great hook.
