Audren’s latest single The Good Road feels brutally open and honest, the work of someone who has lived a lot and lost plenty yet still holds onto a quiet belief in beauty. She started with a sense of nostalgia that caught her off guard, the realisation that over the years she had let go of wonder, trust, maybe even parts of herself. Facing those feelings head on instead of hiding from them, she wrote a song that puts them out in the open for all to hear.

Audren made sure that The Good Road was more than just another single, thanks to a little help from those close to her. With Chris Rime, her long-time partner and collaborator's guitar work, adding a kind of hypnotic pulse, the track is really quite something. Filling the gaps there is some stunning work on a Hammond organ, while Audren’s voice moves between intimate confession and something more reaching. As the song builds, gospel harmonies come in giving weight to the chorus and shifting the mood from solitary reflection to shared experience.

It is the second glimpse of her upcoming album Think Freedom, out this November. For Audren, who spent years away from music after being struck down with Lyme disease, it marks another step back into a space she has fought hard to reclaim.
