Ben Heyworth
Tell Me, What Is Love?

Picture
After a decade away from releasing music, Manchester singer-songwriter Ben Heyworth is back and he’s stripped everything right down to the core. His new single Tell Me, What Is Love? landed on 8th of August 2025, and it’s a raw acoustic ballad that asks the kind of question most of us have struggled with at some point.

If you know Ben from his earlier work under the alias This Morning Call, this might surprise you. Gone are the lush electronic layers of his 2013 album Organs of the State. Instead, what you get here is just Ben, a guitar, and a voice carrying the weight of heartbreak. It’s vulnerable, direct, and feels like it’s meant to be heard in a quiet room with no distractions.

Recorded at Blueprint Studios, the same place that Manchester heavyweights Elbow call home, the track was captured live with minimal editing. That decision gives it a closeness you don’t always hear in modern productions. Every crack in his voice and shift in emotion comes through, which only adds to the song’s impact.

Heyworth cites Neil Finn, Damon Albarn, and Badly Drawn Boy as influences, and you can hear that same knack for honest, melody-driven songwriting in Tell Me, What Is Love?. It’s music that doesn’t hide behind big production tricks, it just lays the feeling out in front of you.

To mark the release, Ben’s hosting a free launch performance tonight at Oxygen Tower, Manchester, from 5–7pm. Expect an intimate evening, a glass of wine in hand, and the chance to hear this comeback single live for the very first time.

“Ten years ago I sold all my gear. Now it’s just me, a guitar, and better lyrics,” Ben says. Judging by Tell Me, What Is Love?, it sounds like he made the right call.
