BLOCK
Whitecaps On The Hudson

Picture
Block returns with Whitecaps On The Hudson [Deluxe Edition], the third reissue in his ongoing catalogue revival with Meridian (ECR Music Group). Originally released in 2013, the album captures a reflective stretch in the songwriter’s life, one marked by quiet routines, shifting tides, and a sense of emotional unravelling.

Living in Haverstraw, a weather-worn town on the Hudson River, Block found himself commuting into the city, taking stock of everything changing around him. The songs on Whitecaps began to surface during that time. Some are bruised. Some are clear-eyed. All of them carry a sense of stillness you can’t fake.

The new edition features three previously unheard tracks, “Expansion Draft,” “France,” and a fresh take on “Faraway.” Each was pulled from the same period, restored with care by producer Blake Morgan and remastered for this release. “Expansion Draft” stands out in particular, a song written from the point of view of a ballplayer left behind, traded off to a struggling team in a city he doesn’t know. There’s grit in it, but also tenderness.

These reissues aren’t just about bringing old music back. For Block, they’re about reclaiming something, unfinished stories, feelings left unspoken, things that sat too long in the dark. With his New York residency at KGB’s Red Room picking up momentum and new music on the horizon, this isn’t a nostalgic retreat. It’s a careful step forward.

Whitecaps On The Hudson [Deluxe Edition] is out now via Meridian. One more chapter reclaimed, and one more to come.
