DAN WEBB:
Hungry Ghosts (feat. Clive Deamer, Dennis Hamm, Bob Lanzetti)
Dan Webb returns with Hungry Ghosts, an instrumental single that continues his exploration of jazz, rock, and electronic music while introducing one of the most impressive collaborative line-ups of his career.
Released on June 12, the track features drummer Clive Deamer, keyboardist Dennis Hamm, and guitarist Bob Lanzetti. While those names immediately attract attention, Hungry Ghosts succeeds because the collaboration serves the music rather than becoming the story itself.
There is so much going on with this track that it is pretty much impossible to describe but one thing that really stood out for me, was the stunning bass line that got me well and truly hooked. It switches up and is drowned out by a wall of sound just over a minute in but by then it had done its job and the track took a different direction, with a more experimental soundscape. Fear not as that glorious bass line kicked in again to take play us out. Cracking job.

Webb was inspired by his move from Melbourne to Singapore in 2023. During that transition, he became fascinated by Singapore's annual Hungry Ghost Festival, a tradition centred on remembrance, spirits, and the connection between past and present. Rather than attempting to tell that story directly, Webb uses the idea as a starting point for a piece that reflects change, uncertainty, adaptation, and personal reinvention.
Musically, Hungry Ghosts demonstrates Webb's ability to balance technical musicianship with accessibility. The track has been well thought out to ensure that every element works together, Webb's ear for music and skill at composition and arrangement is evident. Dennis Hamm's synth work adds colour and movement, while Bob Lanzetti's guitar contribution provides additional energy and character. Clive Deamer's drumming is a driving force, helping anchor the track as it moves through its various moods and transitions.
The visually striking music video that goes with the track was created entirely within Webb Warp, a browser-based audiovisual platform designed by Webb himself. Dan Webb's project allows users to manipulate audio stems into reactive visual experiences in real time and, notably, was developed without the use of AI. The result reflects Webb's wider interest in combining music, technology, and visual creativity into a single artistic experience.
With Hungry Ghosts, you aren't just getting a throw away tune, it is a track that rewards your investment in it, repeated listening is a must as you get to hear new elements with each listen, making Hungry Ghosts a track that is well worth checking out.
