Dark City Kings
Champions of Tomorrow's Fun
Black Mountain band Dark City Kings recently released their new EP Champions of Tomorrow’s Fun. The new EP, features production by Kevin Moloney, known for his work with Sinéad O’Connor, was released through Citizen Vinyl studios in Asheville, a space with a long recording history.
The EP is led by a double single, Champions of Tomorrow's Fun and Atmosphere. Mixing upeat pop with zydeco inspired rhythms, the first single Champions of Tomorrow's Fun contrasts perfectly against the second track, Atmosphere, which leans into post punk tones with the influences of bands like The Cure, Blondie and Talking Heads adding a uniquely nostalgic feel to the track.

Dark City Kings, made up of Colleen Rose, Merlin Armstrong, Kyrie Antoinette, Bayla Ostrich, Craig Rumney, and JP Kennedy, developed the songs in a remote homestead in the Southern Appalachian Mountains before moving into the studio. The writing process was described as late nights of collaboration, shaped by a search for brightness during difficult times.
The band has positioned this release as a preview of their forthcoming album Joy is Defiance, expected in 2026. For now, Champions of Tomorrow’s Fun presents a pair of tracks that highlight their mix of pop immediacy, punk energy, and new wave textures.
