DIYA
Satellite
Los Angeles artist DIYA released her single Satellite back in April. The track took a little longer to complete than originally planned due to changes in collaborators, time and circumstances but DIYA persevered and overcame all of these obstacles and the wait was worth it.
The song began a few years ago as an early studio idea with producer Hayden Thomas, also known as MOODHAY. Like everything at the time, when the pandemic hit, sessions became irregular and that slowed momentum. The track was left unfinished for a period and only picked up again much later, once DIYA felt ready to return to it. At that point, MECCA came on board as engineer and helped bring the song to completion.

Rather than replacing the original version, several approaches were tried along the way, including a full rebuild of the track. DIYA made the decision to release the version that was closest to where the song started, with the original structure still intact.
There is a preference for rhythm and a sense of movement over traditional storytelling. The focus of the track is very much on groove and feel, something the was shaped by listening habits that include disco, R&B and house during the writing of this track and those influences are very prevalent throughout.
More than anything, Satellite reflects a period of development, capturing an idea that was put down, picked back up, and finished at a different point in time, with that distance becoming part of the record itself.
