ECHOMATICA
Something

Picture
Echomatica have followed up their debut with a new single, Something, out now on Dead Signal Records. Recorded live to analogue tape at Earwig Studios in Auckland, the track is practically oozes the warmth and imperfections of a performance captured in the heat of the moment.

Their first single Love Isn’t Always made an immediate impact, climbing into student radio charts around New Zealand and picking up plays overseas in the US, UK, Australia and Europe. Within weeks it found its way onto a tonne of playlists, helping the band build a growing audience online.

This single shows a different side to Echomatica, leaning into an overall brighter sound filled with hazy synths interweaved with sharp guitar lines. The track has a nostalgic feel to it while keeping its footing very much in the present. The push and pull of contrasting moments gives keeps the ear focussed on the track, waiting to hear what comes next with fragile verses rubbing against bigger, more expansive bursts. At its core is that restless search for connection, the spark we chase in people, in memory, in art.

Echomatica are Charlie Maclean (vocals), Mat Chong (guitar), Scott Samson (bass) and A (guitar/programming). The band have created a song that feel both cinematic and intimate, drawing on indie rock roots but colouring it with layered, dreamlike textures. Something is out right now so do your ears a favour and go check it out.
