Every Other Weekend
Memories
Chris Bull, former frontman of Manchester indie rockers, City Reign, is back with a musical project he called Every Other Weekend. With the debut album 'All Present and Inept' expected for release this year, Chris has released the second single from the album, 'Memories' which gives a taste of things to come.
The single is a look at the overwhelming and incredibly complex way we handle grief and change. Reflecting on his own experiences of intense change from the loss of his father and marriage breakdown to his previous band coming to an end, Chris questions what we hold dear to us and what will remain when we are gone. Something that is difficult for many to deal with, there is real grit to the way he sings the chorus, Chris sings it with purpose.

Speaking of Chris's voice, he has a great indie rock vocal style which at times reminded me of The Wonder Stuff frontman Miles Hunt. The track starts with acoustic guitar building quickly to the opening line "What do you think would be remembered, if all the paperwork flew away?", a very powerful line and when you think about it, what will be remembered? Very deep.
The musical arrangement is steady and consistent throughout keeping the focus on Chris' vocals. The music feels very upbeat and almost jolly which is not what you expect when a song is written about something as emotionally charged as 'Memories'. It is a cracking track and I am very much looking forward to hearing more from Every Other Weekend.
