Well, they've only gone and done it again. It has been, well, let's just say, a little while since we heard new material from metal heavyweights Anthrax, and now we have two brand new singles in as many months. With the release of It's For The Kids in May, the band has obviously been hard at it in the studio, as they have just dropped another new track, The Edge of Perfection.
I have only given it one listen before writing this, as I want to give my first impression. Well, I have got to tell you I was blown away by just how tight the band sounded and how undeniably Anthrax The Edge of Perfection is. At over 7 minutes long, there are no vocals until around the two-minute mark, with a lush musical introduction to the track, starting off slow and building to a heavy as hell explosion of sound. It is at that point that you realize that these lads really mean business.

Charlie Benante's drum work, to me, is some of the best I have heard from him. In fact, it is fair to say that everything from Scott Ian's and Jonathan Donais' shredding to Frank Bello's bass that really shines through at times just goes to show that Anthrax have been able to stay true to their identity even after all these years.
Joey Belladona's vocals are as powerful as they ever have been. His distinctive tone adds the final piece to the puzzle of creating a song that already had the hallmarks of a classic Anthrax anthem. It is almost twice as long as It's For The Kids but it honestly felt like it was over in a heartbeat, and the accompanying video is visually stunning. I haven't figured out the story yet from the first watch, but I think it had something to do with succumbing to your inner demons, but don't hold me to that.

Yes, don't worry, there is a rather tasty guitar solo to look forward to as well. So if you love metal and love Anthrax and were worried that you wouldn't get to hear new music from them or were worried that when new material came, it would be subpar. Well fear not, this is a track that will rock your flipping socks off, just like Anthrax always has done.
