Fons & the Chargers
The Last Little Christmas Tree
Fons & the Chargers have released a new seasonal single titled The Last Little Christmas Tree just in time for Christmas. The project is led by Utrecht based musician Fons Slieker, who balances music alongside his work as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon in training. Outside of his medical career, Slieker has continued to develop a small but personal body of music rooted in classic songwriting traditions.
The new single was written as a personal piece inspired by his young son, Guus. At it's heart the song is a simple story about an imperfect Christmas tree whose superficial imperfections are overcome thanks to plenty of care and attention. It is an idea that perfectly reflects Fons' interest in themes of family, warmth and the importance of everyday moments, rather that a big spectacle or novelty. The lyrics keep the song focussed on the main theme making it easy to follow and easy to identify with.

Musically, The Last Little Christmas Tree draws from the sound of traditional Christmas recordings from the 1940s through to the 1960s. Slieker cites artists such as Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby, Ella Fitzgerald, and Frank Sinatra as long standing influences, and that influence is reflected in the song’s structure and relaxed delivery. The chorus is straightforward and designed to be memorable without excess.
The track was recorded on the Dutch island of Texel, a place Slieker associates closely with family life. While the initial recordings were assisted using AI tools, the final version was edited and remastered by hand. The result is a modest, good natured Christmas song made with a clear personal intention rather than commercial ambition.
