‘WHAT IF WE BREAK UP?
Spotify
Budding London-via-Italy artist GaDDel explores the fragility of important relationships in the heartfelt new offering “What If We Break Up?” - the second single from his debut album, coming out later this winter.
As is becoming typical for the brooding, soul-bearing vocalist, “What If We Break Up?” emerges as an introspective, inquisitive number, with the track hearing GaDDel anxiously reel off fictional scenarios about a relationship and facing how they would make him feel in reality.
With no holds barred for emotional expression in his music, “What If We Break Up?” overflows with GaDDel’s emotionally charged confessions across a minimal backing of just a Yamaha 1954 Grand Piano, allowing GaDDel’s raspy vocals to take centre stage and deliver the track’s poignant, self-written lyrics in full capacity.
GaDDel made the following statement about “What If We Break Up?”: “This song means everything to me and talks about relationships, in particular my troubled relationship with my mum. I wrote the song as an attempt to reconnect with her, to come back to that reality when we loved each other and to find balance and peace again. I’m very scared to lose her and it’s my biggest fear; we love each other, but at the same time we both hate how we act. So, the title of the song says it all: ‘What if we break up?’ What if we don’t talk anymore? What if we fight more than we normally do? What if I lose her forever?”
With his finger on the pulse of sounds emerging from every genre and culture, GaDDel uses these broad influences for his storytelling, songwriting and composing. Having grown up with his father being a passionate music listener and a vinyl collector, music has remained an integral part of GaDDel’s life since a very young age - using his parents’ business (a greenhouse garden) as a playground, by sampling animal and nature sounds and turning them into his first songs.
Playing lots of sold out gigs in his hometown, GaDDel eventually moved to London and released his first official single - although things felt like they were moving in a positive direction, GaDDel’s mental health rapidly declined, mainly due to serious health problems. Taking time out of his music career to recover, GaDDel sought major escapism from his troubles by writing new music and spending time with his loved ones, eventually making a return to music with the November 2022 release of “I Don’t Suffer Anymore”.
Now in a securer position and finally ready to start again, “What If We Break Up?” gives another insight into the emotional depth and creativity of an intriguing newcomer who has plenty more still to offer.
