Scattered Clouds

Italian composer and guitarist Gianfranco Malorgio continues his move into soundtrack focused writing with Scattered Clouds, a piece developed with visual storytelling in mind. Built around a concept inspired by 1980s sci-fi cinema, the composition reflects a clear shift in Malorgio’s work toward music designed for film, television and sync placements.

From the very start of the track you get transported straight back in time to the 1980s era of sci-fi, with Gianfranco concentrating on creating a piece of music that is not only great to listen to on its own but would also lend itself to being the soundtrack to a sci-fi video or movie. The atmospheric synth work really captures the feel of that point in time, and Gianfranco does a great job of bringing it right up to date.​

It is no surprise that this composition works so well, as Gianfranco has a long and varied musical background from classical guitar to jazz as well as founding gypsy jazz project Hot Club Roma. He has collaborated with a wide range of musicians and also worked on projects involving composer Enrico Melozzi. So that gives you an idea of the influences that went into his artistic and creative decisions on this recording.

Gianfranco Malorgio is now releasing music through his own label, Papilio Records, and already has an extensive catalogue that is aimed towards visual media. Scattered Clouds fits in perfectly alongside his other releases, including the newly released Good News, which is another excellent piece of music.
