GIUSEPPE BONACCORSO
L'Ombra della Terra

Picture
Giuseppe Bonaccorso doesn’t make music to play in background and his latest work, L’Ombra della Terra (The Shadow of the Earth), follows that same path. It is more of a statement than a song. Four minutes long but sprawling in its intent, it moves slowly, almost stubbornly, through shifting layers of sound.

L’Ombra della Terra is a track that starts quietly with synths and faint textures stretching out like distant signals before the weight of rhythm and guitar bring the whole thing back to earth. Giuseppe's voice is spoken with force like a poet holding court. Every line feels carefully positioned and designed to unsettle.

There is a definite sense of theatre here at times it edges towards the uncomfortable, as if he wants the listener to wrestle with what they’re hearing. Traditions, rituals, old habits and all are turned over and questioned. Here the rebellion isn’t painted in slogans rather in Giuseppe's words that hit home before the music folds around them again.

L’Ombra della Terra follows the path Bonaccorso carved with Playground in Gaza, though this one digs deeper. This track asks more of its listener with no easy hooks and no escape routes. Just a shadow to step into and sit with, a very immersive experience.
