Giuseppe Cucé
21grammi

Picture
Giuseppe Cucé released his album 21grammi on June 20th, 2025. The record was written and recorded in Catania and brings together songs developed across several years rather than during one concentrated period. It is thanks to that fact that helped to shape the way the album came together, not following one, single narrative. Instead the album reflects various phases of writing and recording that have all eventually found themselves finally together on one place.

Recording took place at TRP Studios with Giuseppe teaming up with long time collaborator, producer Riccardo Samperi. A lot of the work was done with live musicians playing together and that shaped the development of the songs. You can tell that the instruments were recorded together in real time with the creative decisions around the track often made in the moment. Piano, organ, bass, percussion and strings are all present across the record, but no single element is put on a pedestal, they all work together.

Tracks such as Ventuno and Una notte infinita reflect the album’s wider approach. They focus on pacing and performance rather than arrangement detail, allowing songs to unfold without obvious peaks or set patterns. Vocals are treated simply, sitting within the mix rather than above it.

21grammi feels less like a designed statement and more like a collection of material that reached a point where it needed to be released. It documents a stretch of time rather than trying to define it.
