Grainville Train
Michaela

Picture
Finnish country rock band Grainville Train have released a new single, Michaela. The track is one of the most personal the band have put out, written by founder Esa Hautaniemi for his youngest daughter, who now lives abroad. The distance between them shapes the way the song moves, its quiet moments and its crescendos.

Musically, Michaela's unique sound is full of the warmth of Americana but with a modern country twist. Guitar and vocals are as always the backbone of the song, but for the first time in the band’s catalogue, a violin threads through the arrangement. The violin isn't just for show either it serves a very specific purpose, it punctuates, emphasizes, and at times seems to speak on its own, filling spaces where the words leave gaps.

The story behind the song is specific, but the emotions are instantly recognisable to most people. It’s about stepping away from home and the struggles of leaving behind your comfortable, familiar life while carrying the past with you as you make your own way.

Grainville Train have been performing since 2008, from Finnish arenas to agricultural fairs, and they’ve garnered international attention along the way. Michaela is sure to add follow the same path, it’s a track that rewards your attention by revealing small details each time it’s heard, the interplay of instruments, the subtle shifts in phrasing.

For listeners who already follow the band, it’s another chapter in their story. For newcomers, it’s a glimpse of what makes Grainville Train’s approach to country rock quietly distinctive. Michaela is available to stream right now, be sure to check it out.
