CIAN DUCROT
'LITTLE DREAMING'
Reviewer: David Weddle
"Little Dreaming is a confident step forward from an artist who’s learning not just how to be heard, but how to say exactly what matters."
Cian Ducrot’s second full-length album, Little Dreaming, opens with a playful touch of personality. A quick medley of audio clips of people attempting to pronounce his name ends with the artist himself cutting in, full of cheek and charm, “IT’S CIAN, BITCH.” It’s a fitting intro to a record that is as self-assured as it is unguarded.
Single, "Who's Making You Feel It" kicks things off properly. With its infectious chorus and sharp, memorable lyrics, it’s built for crowd participation , a definite singalong moment at future live shows. That energy carries smoothly into the title track, Little Dreaming, where a euphoric chorus and carefree rhythm give it instant replay appeal. The hook lingers long after it ends, setting the tone for what may become a fan favourite.
Cian shifts gears with What About Love? which offers a sobering reflection on life lived through screens and filtered validation. The steady rhythm gives it movement, but the message cuts deep, a subtle reminder not to miss the real moments happening offline. Kiss and Tell very much leans into folk territory with warmth, while Hallelujah delivers a polished, emotional ballad that feels built for big stages.
That folk edge returns on Break My Heart, where hints of gospel give it a rich, uplifting tone. But it’s My Best Friend that strikes hardest, a tender, personal tribute to Cian's friend who is sadly no longer with us, the song is full of heart and quiet honesty. It’s in moments like this where Cian’s lyrical growth truly shines.
Where his debut Victory felt like a bold declaration, a young artist planting his flag, Little Dreaming feels more grounded and introspective. There’s less of a need to prove something, and more space to simply speak from the heart. It’s reflective, thoughtful, and mature without losing any of Cian’s natural charisma. (By the way I'm not saying Cian is old, just for the record.)
Second albums are often seen as a challenge, but Little Dreaming is anything but a stumble. It’s a confident step forward from an artist who’s learning not just how to be heard, but how to say exactly what matters. Cian's lyrics are hard hitting at times and definitely show emotional maturity and confidence in himself.
Overall Little Dreaming is a cracking record and one that I am sure his fans will love but more importantly a record that will stand the test of time. Check it out for yourself from 1st of August.
