"Undeniably a cracking album."
Now then, this is a bit of an unusual one for me. When The Spice Girls were breaking records and boundaries, I was fully immersed in the world of heavy metal, so needless to say, they were not on my radar. I have heard some of Melanie C's solo hits, and they are all cracking including the mega hit with Bryan Adams, but this new album takes things to a whole new level. Making a triumphant return with an album that is not easy to ignore, Melanie C has been working hard to bring you a collection of bangers that will help you work out hard.
Sweat, Melanie's ninth solo studio album, is a real transformation from the self-titled 2020 release. Six years on, Melanie C's latest album feels like a bit of a sonic time machine in that she has managed to reconnect with the sounds of her youth, but don't think that is derogatory in any way at all. She has managed to take the vibe and the sounds of those days and brought it into the 21st century with passion and infectious enthusiasm for sure.

The raw energy of the early rave scene that defined a generation has influenced the overall sound of the album but with a modern edge that brings those familiar sounds right up to date, letting a whole new generation experience a glimpse of those heady nights spent on the dancefloors across 90s UK. Melanie C has taken the experience she has gained across eight years of being a DJ and has done a great job of ensuring that each track works on its own, but equally, they all flow in a way that keeps the energy of the album at peak levels throughout.
Yes, Sweat is undeniably a cracking album, but it is more than just that. It really feels like an album created by a musician that really understands the complex relationship between music, a great beat and the human response on the dancefloor. Melanie is going to get you moving for sure with this one. Just press the play button and I am pretty sure you won't be able to stop your toes tapping at the very least, but be warned, you may well not be able to control your feet.
My verdict? Well, from a self-confessed rock fan, I love anything that celebrates bass, and Sweat most certainly does that. It is an album that shows a playful side to an artist that has had so many amazing hits. Definitely one to check out for yourself here.
