Priapism
Rock Hard

Review by David Weddle
" I have never used the phrase moreish for vocals but I can't think of another way to describe it."
Geordie masters of metal Priapism have recently dropped their debut offering and it is a proper banger. The album Rock Hard is a record that , from the band name and album title alone is packed full of tongue in cheek humour for sure but this is band is no one trick pony.

Formed in 2024 they are a four piece that have put their own stamp on old school heavy metal with a focus on dark horror, in  their own words they have staked their claim as the UK's premier purveyors of cosmic dread.

The music is straight up heavy metal. Big riffs, solid drums, bass doing its job of shaking your ear bones and vocals that get right in your face. It’s loud and physical and doesn’t leave any room doubt that they are here to rock your ruddy socks off. The songs are most certainly written to play live and I can imagine that would be quite something to witness.

There is no messing about with this record, just seven tracks long but you definitely won't feel short changed. From the title track Rock Hard (Intro) the lads introduce themselves with a cacophony of sound, with a bassline that just crushes it. That pretty much sets the tone for the rest of the album, the vocals are so visceral and I'll be honest I have never used the phrase moreish for vocals but I can't think of another way to describe it.

The funky guitar work on Incarnate is insanely good and Theme for a Bigfoot with it's Faith No More-esque vibe is going to have you coming back for more time and time again. Basically if you like your riffs hard and heavy then you are going to enjoy Rock Hard.

A cracking album which pushes musical boundaries and showcases the very best of modern day heavy metal. Nice one lads.
