Slash
orgy of the damned
Reviewer - David Weddle
Rock legend Slash has just released his brand new solo album, "Orgy of the Damned." The album is a collection of classic tracks from the worlds of blues, soul, and rock. Being a world famous rock star obviously has its perks, one of which is being friends with some of the most iconic voices in the music world. Slash has recruited the cream of the crop of singers to join him on the album.
The album kicks off with The Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson taking the mic, Chris and Slash set the standard for the album with a stunning rendition of Steppenwolf classic 'The Pusher'. Chris' voice fits the song perfectly and complements Slash's guitar work perfectly.

The album is crammed full of blues infused greatness, including a rather special cover of 'Hoochie Coochie Man', with vocals provided by Billy F Gibbons of ZZ Top fame. The song feels so nostalgic, and Billy's voice is the ideal voice for the Muddy Waters song. The piano and mouth organ add to the blues vibe, and Slash mimics that with a beautiful blues infused solo that sent chills down my spine. Just perfect. As you can probably imagine, any album that Slash releases is going to be guitar heavy, and "Orgy of the Damned" features a plethora of guitar solos , showcasing Slash's ability to switch styles and create a sound that is so rich and well rounded. He really does give us a real treat on this album.
The album is over an hour of musical goodness, with the likes of Chris Stapleton, Iggy Pop, Gary Clarke Jr and even Demi Lovato making an appearance. Each putting their own mark on a classic track. Each provides real variety throughout the album, keeping it fresh and interesting with each track.
While I enjoyed every song, there was one that stood out for me. "Killing Floor," featuring AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson. Brian's voice is so distinctive and instantly recognisable, but on this track, his voice sounds more relaxed than in his usual style, and it sounds amazing. His tone is superb, you can still hear Brian's unique sound, but with a little extra something that lends itself to this style of music.

The last vocal performance of the album is given to us by multi award winning vocalist, musician, and composer Beth Hart on "Stormy Monday." Beth gives a silky smooth performance, adding a little soul to the party before Slash closes the album with a fully instrumental track, "Metal Chestnut.".
What a way to end it, Slash shows us exactly why he is where he is today. The track is a real triumph, with Slash's signature sound well and truly stamped on this one. There isn't much more to say other than that I am so glad he saved this to the end. It feels very much like a celebration of everything that the rest of the album has given us.
Check out "Orgy of the Damned" right now, wherever you get your music.
