One of North London's finest bands in recent years, Kawala, have announced that they are "hanging up their boots" after nearly a decade together. In a statement on their social media accounts, Kawala said, "Truthfully, we just feel tired, a little burnt out, & desperately in need of a break to work out what the future holds.”
Despite the need for a break, the band were thankful for and proud of their many achievements, including selling out Kentish Town Forum, which had been a long-time dream of theirs.
Our first encounter with Kawala goes back to their release of their mixtape "Paradise Heights." you can read our review here . We were lucky enough to be at Beyond Vinyl in Newcastle when the band played an acoustic version of their album 'Better With You' to a packed-out store. They sounded amazing and really connected with the loyal fans who packed out the venue. You can read about it here.
The news of the band's split was met with heartbreak from fans who took to social media to voice their sadness and support for the band.

The fans have one last chance to party with Kawala live, as the band's upcoming tour in February has now become a farewell tour. It looks like it will be an emotional farewell as they play their final UK headline shows. The tour kicks off in Southampton on the 1st of February and sees Kawala playing across the UK, including a show at Boiler Shop in Newcastle on the 7th and finishing in London at O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire on the 13th. The band's website also lists a show in Amsterdam on the 25th of February and a festival show at In It Together Festival in Port Talbot.
It is set to be a tour to remember, so make sure you are there if you can be to say farewell to Kawala. Music News Monthly wishes Jim, Daniel, Ben, Dan, and Reeve the best of luck for whatever they choose to do next, and we look forward to seeing what the future holds for them all.
Thanks for the music.
