After more than two decades moving between soul, reggae and electronic music - collaborating with artists from Chase & Status to Paul Weller - Liam Bailey returns with Shadow Town, a stripped-back new album produced by Jimmy Hogarth that places his songwriting and voice firmly at the centre.

Recorded in Hogarth’s Hampstead home studio, the album was created in an intentionally intimate setting that allowed Bailey’s voice, phrasing and lyrical storytelling to take precedence. The project reunites the pair more than a decade after their collaboration on Bailey’s 2014 debut Definitely Now, and reflects a renewed focus on instinctive songwriting and performance.

In recent years Bailey has been immersed in the sound system world through his work with Big Crown Records and collaborations with artists including Leon Michels and Nightmares On Wax. While traces of reggae remain embedded in his phrasing and rhythm, Shadow Town shifts the focus back to Bailey as a songwriter, blending pastoral soul, British folk influence and understated R&B.

Born to Jamaican and English parents and raised in Nottingham, Bailey first emerged through a series of EPs released on Amy Winehouse’s Lioness Records before reaching a wider audience as the co-writer and vocalist on Chase & Status’s UK Top 5 single “Blind Faith”. Over the years he has collaborated with artists including Paul Weller, Sleaford Mods, Rudimental, Lee “Scratch” Perry, Shy FX and Nightmares On Wax, and recently joined Paul Weller on tour.

With Shadow Town, Bailey brings decades of musical experience into focus - a record shaped by instinct, restraint and creative freedom.
