If you were around in the 1990s, you will have definitely heard of Cast; their songs are synonymous with the Britpop era and helped to define 90s indie rock. The band has not long released their seventh studio album, and they are back on the road spreading the musical joy, so to speak. We were lucky enough to catch their Newcastle show.
As I entered the boilershop, it was already packed. There was a very positive mood from the crowd, with lots of smiling faces from a very varied audience, with fans from the nineties making up a good proportion of the crowd, but the younger generations were all well represented, which is great to see.
The merch stand was a refreshingly simple affair with a handful of tees, signed drum skin, and vinyl up for grabs. The prices were really surprising, starting at just a tenner for a shirt, which is a great deal.

Supporting Cast were Liverpudlian rock outfit Woo. They played a stellar set that was full of energy. The band all seemed to be having a good time, and the audience was lapping it up. They really looked the part and did a cracking job of warming up the sold-out boilershop. You can check out Woo for yourself; search @woo.liverpool on Instagram.
The stage at the venue is of a modest size, and with the crowd only a few feet from the band, the evening felt very special. An incredible opportunity for fans to see CAST before they embark on the huge Oasis tour next year.
As you can probably imagine, there was a pretty solid setlist with a mix of songs old and new. The band played the title track of their latest album, 'Love Is The Call', early on, which went down really well with the audience.
With John Power at the helm, the Newcastle fans were in safe hands. His distinctive voice is still as strong as ever. When John sings, you can't help but listen; his experience and natural talent made for an impeccable performance. The whole band was on point, with each member of the band showing exactly why Cast made the impact they did back in the 90's and why they are still here today playing sold-out shows.

An incredible show that was packed full of all the old favourites, including 'Fine Time', 'Walk Away', and closing with 'Alright'. Cast made sure that their fans got to hear their newer songs like 'Bluebird', and despite John's guitar knacking up for 'First Smile Ever' (in true rock n roll fashion), the audience definitely enjoyed what they were hearing.
There is no doubt that Cast knows what they are doing when it comes to putting on a good show, and the fans were definitely not left disappointed. As of 28th of October 2024 is has been confirmed that the band embarks on the Oasis tour next year, they prove once again that they are a band that puts their heart and soul into their music, and that is reciprocated by the well-earned loyalty of their fans.
A stunning performance and one that I will remember for sure.
