Indie rockers The Wombats have just visited Newcastle's Utilita Arena on the band's current 'Oh! The Ocean' tour and we were there to bring you all the action. The rain may have been lashing down as people made their way into the arena, yet even soggy shoes and wet hair couldn't dampen the spirits of the fans who had been waiting for their chance to see The Wombats do their thing.
Joining the band on this tour are Overpass and Scottish favourites, The Snuts. Opening the night, Overpass took to the stage, and they sounded fantastic as they played an unusually short set of 5 songs. I later heard that one of the band wasn't feeling too well, so their set came to an early end. The fans in the arena enjoyed it, and so they did their job well. Get well soon.

The Snuts always go down well, and they certainly know how to get people going. They have a swagger of confidence about them, and they were clearly enjoying themselves on the arena stage, which reflected the vibes from the crowd who were rocking out to the sound of 'Always', 'Glasgow' and the like. A really solid performance from The Snuts.

Having dried off and been thoroughly warmed up by Overpass and The Snuts, the Newcastle crowd were most definitely in the mood for The Wombats as the lads walked on stage to huge cheers from the fans.
They were on top form tonight, opening up their set with 'Sorry I'm Late, I Didn't Want To Come'. The band were in fine fettle, and that's the truth. You'd better believe that energy from bassist Tord was so incredibly infectious as he moved all over the stage, jumping around and basically just rocking out, a true powerhouse of good vibes. The audience, which was a real mix of ages, all seemed to be enjoying themselves, and from my perspective in the photo pit, the band appeared to mirror that.
There were a few technical issues which meant that unfortunately 'My Head Is Not My Friend', which has been played on previous gigs on this tour, didn't get an airing, and 'Tokyo (Vampires & Wolves)' only got a partial play, but these things happen. The furry wombat suits that made an appearance and the balloon drop definitely made up for it.
The band continue their tour with shows in Birmingham, Bournemouth, Dublin, Belfast and Blackpool before heading out to the USA in 2026.
