Magdi Aboul-Kheir
Slow Heat
Germany-based composer Magdi Aboul-Kheir has released Slow Heat, a ten-track ambient album built around simple melodic ideas and a mix of electronic and acoustic sounds.
Whilst synthesizers undoubtedly form the base of the record, Magdi has also incorporated a medley of instruments including a solo cello across several tracks, allowing it to carry the main melody at times, adding an extra dimension, and along with the subtle introduction of woodwind and guitar flow together to take over the senses and help you drift in to another world for a short time as you immerse yourself into the stunning soundscape that Magdi has created.

Magdi trained as a pianist, and that influence really shows in the way melody is used throughout the album. Even when the textures become quite dense, there is still a clear melodic idea right there within the mix.
The composer has released a wide range of music in recent years, including the electronic album Into the Retroverse, the ambient project Nubes Sonorae, and The Mirror of Truth, written for multiple pianos. Outside of recording work, he also composed Bold Horizons, the opening piece for the Nexuscon science-fiction convention in Berlin.
That experience can certainly be felt in this record as the skilful compositions have been recorded and produced with care and that shows. The album is available right now and is well worth checking out.
