Martin Lloyd Howard’s latest release, Selene, is an original piece for solo guitar, written after seeing a moonscape painting by his wife. The warm, bright tone that you can hear is thanks to the fifty year old classical guitar that Martin used to perform Selene. The song was written with a straightforward goal, to contribute something to the nylon string world, that wasn't too academic or niche, but something new that has real depth and emotion. Martin has certainly achieved that and more, proving that there is room for original, classical guitar music in the modern era.

Howard trained as a classical guitarist in England, but over the years moved into folk, blues and rock, on both electric and acoustic instruments. Most of his output is instrumental, either solo or in small ensemble settings. He has also worked with other musicians, including Mark Johnson from the Kent band The Midnight River Crew.

Selene is a track that has influences from Martin's formal background but also influences from other areas that he has picked up over the years. The song isn't showy rather it is calm and melodic. The song is a great introduction to Michael Howard's music and the musical style that he has developed over the past few years.
