UK duo Max Macready introduce their project with Holding Pattern, a debut single that establishes their interest in cinematic, synth-led sound design. Mixing analogue textures with electronic rhythms Max Macready explore the subject of human connections.

'Holding Patterns' is built with layers of vintage synths and processed percussion, developing slowly with repetition and gradual shifts in tone rather than your standard structures. You can feel an underlying tension that never truly breaks, it gives the track a real sense of movement.

The pair describe their work as music from “a retro-future that never was”, a phrase that fits the approach. Max Macready lean right in to the nostalgic sound, using older technology to create something that is surprisingly grounded in present day production detail. It’s an exercise in atmosphere as much as songwriting, created to be immersive rather than direct.

The accompanying video expands on that idea. It is set in a dimly lit, machine filled space, it frames the track as a kind of lost broadcast. The imagery of static screens and flickering lights mirrors the pulse of the music, connecting visual and audio elements into coherent one sequence.

Holding Pattern marks the beginning of Max Macready’s journey, offering a first look at a coming together of creative minds build a their sound around mood and texture. The duo’s debut suggests a focus on creating a world of their own on their own terms as much as just creating another song. Their attention to detail really paid off and the video adds a strong visual identity. Luckily for you, the video is available to view right now on YouTube.
