Speak Too Soon is Mercy Kelly doing what they do best, letting the mood do the heavy lifting. The Manchester five-piece don’t feel like they are interested in trying to impress, they’re more interested in building something slow, with room to breathe. You get these slight shifts as the track moves, more weight in the drums, more warmth in the chords, until it swells into something that feels quietly overwhelming.
The vocals are solid, and backed up by some nifty guitar work which kicks the track off and keeps the ear's attention all the way through. The song is a proper earworm, sticking around long after it has finished ( in a good way ). The laid back sound sounds effortless but if you listen carefully you can hear just how much skill has gone in to creating 'Speak Too Soon'.
