Downturn Trade Light-Hearted Edge for Bleak Realism on "Bloodshot"
UK melodic hardcore outfit Downturn are following up the success of their previous release, Yoof, with a darker, grittier new statement. Known for blending intense live energy with emotionally charged songwriting, the band has built steady momentum across the UK underground scene, earning airplay on BBC Introducing, Total Rock, Hard Rock Hell Radio, and BSBTV.
Their new single, "Bloodshot," marks a definitive shift in tone for the band. While their last release leaned toward a more light-hearted approach, the band notes that "Bloodshot" carries a dangerous edge born from bleak surroundings. Written and performed by the core lineup of Mason Preece (vocals), Cris Baker (guitar), Jonni Thurling (bass), and Chris Jenkinson (drums)—the track targets themes of poverty and addiction culture.
Recorded at Voltage Studios, mixed and mastered by Grant Beeden Clayton, and accompanied by a video from Marcus Verrall at Riffvisuals, "Bloodshot" serves as the first look at the grittier themes anchoring Downturn’s upcoming debut studio album.

The track explores the dual identity of vocalist Martin LeMar (Nachtgeschrei, Mekong Delta) balancing a job by day with fronting a rock band by night. The accompanying music video is a visual representation of this conflict, featuring LeMar interacting directly with his own onstage persona.
The upcoming album focuses on unedited, raw live performances, intentionally avoiding drum samples and heavy equalization. To achieve this organic sound, Vivien Lalu and longtime guitar/bass collaborator Joop Wolters reunited with legendary drummer Simon Phillips (ex-Toto, Protocol), who recorded the unedited drum tracks. The album also features explosive keyboard solos across three tracks by Jens Johansson (Stratovarius, Yngwie Malmsteen).
According to the band, the album's title and its artwork by Mattias Norén—depicting a writer dying at his desk—serve as a commentary on the fading light of human imagination in the era of artificial intelligence.

Drunk Dial Records Returns with Fictional Band Tribute "Fakes – Volume Three"
Portland-based indie label Drunk Dial Records is set to release Fakes – Volume Three on June 23, 2026. Available digitally and on cassette, the latest installment of the compilation series features North American punk, garage, and indie bands covering songs made famous by fictional bands from television and film.
All proceeds from the release will benefit Kids in Need of Defense (KIND), an international nonprofit providing legal and psychosocial support to unaccompanied and separated refugee and migrant children.
The 13-track compilation highlights the label's signature focus on raw, spontaneous performances opting for a more authentic sound than being concerned with studio polish.
The release expands on previous volumes of the series, which have featured artists such as Josh Berwanger (The Anniversary), Andrew Bassett (Mean Jeans), and Ian MacDougall (Riverboat Gamblers).
