Monophonic Underground
Do or DIY 

Based in East Cleveland, Monophonic Underground released their debut EP Do or DIY on January 5th, 2026. The project keeps things interesting by moving between ambient, IDM and experimental electronic sounds without sticking to one style.

Do or DIY was put together as a solo project over a number of months across 2024 and 2025. Much of the early work started away from traditional songwriting, with the initial ideas coming from re-scoring scenes from silent films such as Nosferatu and Metropolis. Eventually became the foundations for the tracks on the EP those fragments were cut up, looped and pulled apart.

Sounds were gathered in the UK and Tenerife, with final edits completed in Ibiza during one of the island’s heavier storms in 2025, all playing their part to add to this unique project. Some of those original links to the film re-scoring have faded along the way, others are still there if you listen closely. A bonus track titled Nosferatu keeps that original idea more intact and will be available via Bandcamp.

Musically, the EP is all about the good stuff, with acid basslines, restrained percussion and found sounds rather than more standard melody led structures giving it a real edge. The title track circles ideas of quiet resistance and self-publishing, while Killer shifts into something more atmospheric, set against suburban scenes after dark.
