Producer Ru Goddard, known for his house releases under the moniker of Neon Transmission*, has been working on a brand new project, Neon Diffraction. The latest track, released through Diffraction Records, Iron River, is a bit different from what you might be used to.

Pushing the boundaries of the current music norms with Neon Diffraction, Ru has decided to embrace and experiment with the use of AI in the recording process mixed with traditional production techniques. In this track it was used to create vocals as well as the drum and bass elements.

​It is interesting to see exactly where the current capabilities of AI are to generate music. Ru himself has said, "If you hate the idea of AI in music, then don’t listen to it, but don’t be fooled into thinking this somehow made this track either quicker or easier to produce. In fact, quite the opposite is the case with these blues-influenced drum and bass tracks. Getting AI to actually sound good is surprisingly tricky."

There is a conversation to be had about the origins of AI music and its place in the modern music scene and how that will look in the future.
