Sunderland's Swindled bring the release cycle for their hotly anticipated third EP What A Nightmare! to a euphoric close with the shimmering, dance-ready single Withdrawal Symptoms, out Friday, June 6th, 2025.

A stylistic departure from the cosmic theatrics of their previous single Cosmic Immigrants, Withdrawal Symptoms throws listeners a bold curveball. Infused with slick 1980s-style synths and an undeniable groove, the track takes Swindled’s indie edge and laces it with dance-pop flair -  just in time for the summer.
"Withdrawal Symptoms is my favourite on the EP because it captures the dance vibe with personal lyrics," says frontman Jonny Swindle. "Connecting the comparisons of love and drugs, and the way they're both spoken about in songs, was a very interesting take on life in my eyes — so I wanted to try my own version."

Built on the emotional weight of love lost and the physicality of heartbreak, Withdrawal Symptoms explores the duality of the title itself. The lyrics draw a clever and candid parallel between the withdrawal from love and the pangs of substance addiction - a relatable theme wrapped in a catchy, synth-fuelled anthem.

"We brought the raw, live band feel to a current pop/club sound," says drummer Felix. "For a while we weren’t sure how far to go with the idea, but in the end, we’re all happy with how it turned out. The balance is perfect."

From the first beat, the track is irresistibly bouncy - something the band is particularly excited to share with live audiences. "It’s just so bouncy," says bassist Thomas. "Jonny does a great job of matching that bounce with a fun, unexpected lyrical story. It’s probably the most fun to play live, and I’m sure everyone will agree it’s a joy to listen to."

As the final taste of the upcoming What A Nightmare! EP, Withdrawal Symptoms is as bold as it is catchy. It showcases a band unafraid to experiment, while remaining firmly rooted in their identity.

"It will probably have the most traction," says guitarist Alex. "It’s poppy, dancy, and comes out just in time for summer - perfect for those holidays and parties."
With infectious rhythm, smart songwriting, and their signature Swindled charm, Withdrawal Symptoms leaves fans eager for more -  and sets the stage for the full release of What A Nightmare! later this year.

Swindled are a 5-piece Art Pop band from Sunderland. With ginger hair, shiny shoes and choreographed movement, their live show is not one to be missed as they really embrace the thrill of playing live.
