NOAH JANT
Calm Tonight
Noah Jant, a pianist from Copenhagen, Denmark, released 'Calm Tonight' back in July 2023. It’s the first track from his debut piano album, 'Piano Dreams,' though he now has five albums in total. Recording most of his music entirely at home, he usually plays each piece right the way through from beginning to end without the need for much layering or editing afterwards. His goal is to capture whatever happens in the moment and he has definitely achieved that.
Noah's inspiration for this track came from his children, in fact they have a heavy influence on his playing and his whole approach to music, something that he doesn't always notice until after his work is complete. He didn't plan the track conceptually, instead he played it, listened to it and then recorded what felt right at the time. It doesn't get more organic than that. The song is about winding down as night arrives, about noticing small shifts in mood or focus, though Noah wouldn’t describe it like that, it’s more straightforward: he sits at the piano, plays, and that’s the track.
The track has never been performed live, it is part of his broader body of work which showcases his experimentation with sound, timing and repetition. Each album Noah creates is built on that approach. Slowly adding new ideas but all the while keeping a direct connection with how he hears the music, Noah has created something clean and easy for listeners to dissect and enjoy. This is a great example of Noah's method and his ongoing commitment to creating piano music on his own terms.
