Nomeno
i wish we hated each other

Sometimes the hardest breakups are the kind without a villain. That’s the space Lyon-based indie artist NOMENO steps into with his new single i wish we hated each other, out today, May 22nd. The track doesn’t shout or demand attention, it lingers. It sits in the awkward quiet after two people say goodbye, not because they want to, but because they have to.

Written and recorded in the same college dorm where the relationship began, the song holds a strange kind of warmth. NOMENO didn’t chase perfection, he let the moment shape the music. The guitar was slightly out of tune, but the emotion in the take was too honest to toss. Instead, he built everything else around it, choosing feeling over polish.  “There was no fight, no betrayal. Just two people who couldn’t make it work,” NOMENO says. “That’s somehow harder to let go of.”

Musically, the track lives in the indie-pop world but doesn’t settle. There are textured synths, washed-out guitars, and lyrics that feel more like journal entries than choruses. It’s the kind of song that might catch you off guard when it comes up on shuffle and suddenly you’re back in your own version of that story.

Born in Paris, raised just outside Boston, and now based in Lyon, NOMENO’s journey into music has been far from typical. He’s a full-time student finishing a degree in aerospace engineering, but over the past year, he’s carved out a growing audience. His 2024 track FOURTH OF JULY quietly racked up thousands of streams and found a home on hundreds of playlists without a big label push.

i wish we hated each other is his sixth release and it shows a deeper side. A steady rhythm and an open metaphorical wound. And sometimes, that’s what makes a song stick.
