Pivots Confront Hyperreality on New Audio-Visual Single

UK-French electronic duo Pivots today kick off their summer with the release of the hard-hitting new single ‘FAKE NEWS’. This latest track from the duo, fronted by former Breton frontman and music-tech innovator Roman Rappak, is a sonic exploration of the increasingly tenuous line between fact and technology in an era of information overload.
"FAKE NEWS” is a hard-hitting single by a band who are exploring the increasingly fragile boundary between truth, technology and perception in the 21st century. Created and recorded in Paris where the band is based, the track is a battle between the real and the virtual. Pivots have carefully mixed together the most pristine synthesizers with the most worn acoustic textures, found sounds and even broken up and reworked recordings of conventional piano to create a landscape that is both human and synthetic.
‘FAKE NEWS’ is released with a corresponding music video, shot entirely on iPhone and manipulated using a multitude of different low-fi visual effects. Pivots actively avoided the use of AI in the video and instead relied on the most basic of technology to create a world of distorted reality. The video follows the narrative of the song and looks at how we consume ‘information’ in the modern world through our smartphones and subsequently how that information can be manipulated and distorted to create a world of ‘fake news’.
“Fake News is about the way technology and social media can distort truth, from the smallest rumours or false claims—like the idea of plastic poisoning—to large-scale political misinformation. It also reflects on the saturation of information in the digital age,” said Pivots frontman Roman Rappak. “We’re fascinated by Alexei Yurchak’s idea of ‘Hypernormalisation’, where reality becomes so fragmented and mediated that we begin to accept almost anything, while becoming increasingly desensitised to what would once feel shocking.”

Pivots are also pioneering a new independent touring model that involves live performances followed by immersive pre-show interactive sessions utilizing game engines and projection mapping. This will be touring small grassroots venues bringing cutting-edge mixed reality to these spaces in order to create sustainable, tech-democratized live touring.
Pivots will celebrate the release of ‘Fake News’ on June 26, 2026. The duo will be playing a special live show and giving people the chance to explore an immersive experience of the game on a barge in the middle of the Bassin de la Villette in Paris.
