Snow Angel
Singer-songwriter and actress Reneé Rapp has seen her music career go from strength to strength since releasing her debut single which has seen Renée go on to play to sold out crowds across the US. Starting a new chapter in her musical journey, Reneé is back with her debut album "Snow Angel", produced by Alexander 23 (Olivia Rodrigo, Tate McRae).
Starting off strong with the opener "Talk Too Much", Reneé shows off her ability to write a tune that is catchy as hell. I'm a sucker for a bit of a monologue break in a track so this one is a sure fire winner for me. The sentiment is one that everyone feels at some point and Reneé does a great job of making the song totally relatable.
Speaking of relatable, "Poison Poison" is exactly that. Who doesn't know someone that is just completely and utterly annoying? I don't know who Renée is referring to in this song but I am glad it's not me as she doesn't hold back any punches.
Another cracking song and one that showcases Reneé ability to write a great story is "The Wedding Song", a song about a song that was never written. A song that is so full of emotion, with powerful vocals that get the chills going down the back of the neck. Wonder what the song would have sounded like, probably would have been a belter.
There is real depth to the album and Reneé is unafraid of showing her more vulnerable side in "I Wish". Talking about the subject of loss of a loved one. An incredibly heart-breaking performance that is sure to make anyone feel the need to wipe away a tear or two. Sadly nobody can escape it and Reneé has done a great job of relaying her own personal experience of loss.
There is so much aggression in the lyrics of some of the songs on this album that are set against a backdrop of feel good tunes that it is easy to find a reason to listen to it. If you are looking to let off steam then click play and listen to the lyrics, if you want to chill just listen to the music and zone the lyrics out.
Mixing attitude and aggression with real heartfelt emotions at times that is bound to connect with people on human level not just musically. Versatile, entertaining and a truly great album that I am definitely going to be listening to again. Go check it out for yourself from 18th of August, visit reneerapp.com For more information.
