THE ‘REFLECTION’ UK ARENA TOUR STARTS IN GLASGOW TONIGHT
Rick Astley recently celebrated his 60th birthday by releasing ‘Waiting On You’. Subsequently named as Radio 2’s Record of the Week, it also spent two weeks on Shazam’s Top 15 - once again underlining how Rick’s immense popularity only strengthens through time. Building on that comeback momentum, he today shares the new single ‘Raindrops’ which has just received its first play on Radio 2 from Gary Davies. It comes as his huge UK and Ireland headline arena tour gets underway in Glasgow tonight.
Good vibes all the time is an apt way to describe Rick’s joyous, hit-packed live show and that feeling pulsates throughout ‘Raindrops’. It is punchy, anthemic pop-rock with an exhilaratingly soulful hook that makes a passionate plea to be given another chance. In the process, it also encourages us to keep the faith that good times will soon follow bad.
‘Raindrops’ was written solely by Rick Astley. It was produced by his long-term friend, the two-time Grammy Award winner Giles Martin (The Beatles), and it’s his first song in over a decade that Rick hasn’t produced himself. Similarly, the track’s energy also comes from a different place to Rick’s recent work (from the #1 ‘50’ to his previous album, 2023’s critically acclaimed ‘Are We There Yet?’), with him working with a full band as opposed to his usual creative approach of performing every instrument himself.
Rick says, “‘Raindrops’ is about letting the person you love the most down. They’ve seen your worst and you want to know is this the end, you can feel the ‘Raindrops’ falling and know the pain you’ve caused but you're asking for one more chance. Let the healing begin and let’s try again.
As I am about to go out on an arena tour I was listening to my new songs wondering what would sound best in that environment and ‘Raindrops’ is it! I hope you like it.”
Since releasing ‘Waiting On You’, Rick has taken a moment to reflect upon his story so far, joining Dermot O’Leary to run through his story in full on BBC2’s ‘Reel Stories’ and exploring the high and lows of his career with Nicki Chapman on Magic FM’s Pop Idols podcast. He also joined a host of big names who performed at the Roundhouse’s Rise Up Gala during its 20th anniversary event.
After this evening’s Glasgow gig, Rick Astley’s ‘Reflection’ arena tour will run through a total of twelve dates before culminating with his first headline show at The O2, London.
