Robin James Hurt
Hey Mary

Picture
Robin James Hurt released his new single “Hey Mary (Play a Song for Me)” on August 29, 2025. The track pays tribute to Dublin street performer Máire Begley, who became a well-known figure outside Bewley’s Café on Grafton Street with her Irish traditional music and performances in Gaeilge.

The single is the second to be taken from Hurt’s forthcoming album A Song, A Story Told, due in October 2025. The lyrics were written by Dublin songwriter Tony Floyd Kenna, with Hurt composing the music and recording the song in his County Wexford studio, The Flux Capacitor. Using a vintage eight-track cassette recorder, Hurt played and produced the track himself, joined by drummer Graham Carey.

Musically, the single combines jangling electric guitars, twelve-string textures, and a driving rhythm section. Its arrangement reflects both Hurt’s storytelling approach and his interest in connecting contemporary folk with elements of power-pop.

Hurt, who was born in Belfast and grew up in Scotland, has been active in the Irish music scene for many years. He has toured widely in Europe and performed with Ronnie Drew, Sinéad O’Connor, and Finbar Furey.

“Hey Mary (Play a Song for Me)” is be available on streaming platforms right now so be sure to check it out, and with the full album A Song, A Story Told to follow later in the year, 2025 is looking to be a great year for Robin James Hurt.
