Rosetta West's latest single “Circle of Doubt” landed just in time for Beltane, a date that fits the track’s dark, ritual-like energy. The Illinois-based band leans deep into blues rock on this one, layering moody, looping guitar riffs with spaced-out solos that swirl in the background. It’s slow-burning and heavy in all the right ways, like it’s been dredged up from some deep inner place.
Lyrically, it’s about feeling trapped in a kind of mental or spiritual loop, stuck in doubt, trying to find a way out after some kind of emotional or even mystical fallout. Percussion duties are shared across the lineup, with drummer Nathan Q. Scratch keeping things locked in, though apparently, he’s never keen on being in front of a camera.
They’ve kept things underground for most of their run, just one official release with Alive Records, but that’s clearly by choice. Rosetta West has built something that doesn’t rely on mainstream recognition to matter. Their music lives out there on Bandcamp, YouTube, and a handful of other places, if you dig a bit, there’s a lot to uncover.
