Ryan McDavid
Runaway (Late Night Reverb)

Picture
Ryan McDavid is an independent musician from Georgetown, Guyana. He works mostly in a dream-pop and low-key electronic space, which isn’t exactly a big scene where he lives, which adds an extra challenge to this talented artist.

Ryan's latest release is a rework of his track 'Runaway', which he has retitled 'Runaway (Late Night Reverb)'. The reimagined track has a slower tempo than the original, avoiding flashiness to concentrate purely on the music, which he has achieved here, it helps to draw focus on the intricacies of the track that you might have missed in 'Runaway'. The song deals with pushing someone away because you’re dealing with your own problems, and the slowed down version in this new release really fits that subject matter perfectly. The simple, soft pulses and distant vocal layers add to the confusion that you might feel when stuck in that very situation.

Working from Guyana presents a different challenge. There isn’t much infrastructure for this kind of music. If you’re making dream-pop or understated electronic work, you can’t rely on local industry support because there isn’t really any. Most of the audience building happens online, person by person, which is slow and sometimes frustrating, but that is how it is. Luckily, the internet has a knack for finding an audience for rising stars, and Ryan is definitely an artist to watch.

As an independent artist, Ryan handles distribution himself. McDavid works closely with his long-time engineer Ray Nizam to bring his rough ideas and atmospheric visions to life. It is thanks to that way of working that lets you know that everything you hear is exactly as the artist intended. 'Runaway' (Late Night Reverb) is a great example of that creative freedom that has led to a cracking reworking of an already great song.

You can check it out for yourself right now. Don't forget to share the track, as it really helps Ryan reach more ears.
