Six artists you won't want to miss at All Points East (Besides Twenty One Pilots)
Words: James Robinson
It's no secret that most of us are counting down the days until Twenty One Pilots take over Victoria Park. But one of the best things about festivals is stumbling across an artist you hadn't planned on seeing and leaving wondering why you hadn't listened to them sooner. Rhianne Downey, The Lottery Winners, The Lathums, Andrew Cushin - just a handful of artists I discovered at festivals and I now have on repeat!
If you're heading to All Points East this summer, here are six acts I'd definitely recommend making time for.
Nova Twins
If you like your live music loud and full of energy, Nova Twins should be high on your list. They mix rock, punk and electronic sounds and they've built a reputation for putting on incredible live shows and always seem to bring everything they've got to the stage. They’ve toured with Foo Fighters and featured on a Bring Me The Horizon track, two pretty great reasons to catch them! Even if you haven't listened to much of their music before, I'd still recommend giving them a chance. They’re one of those bands that are even better live!
Royal & the Serpent
I have to admit, Royal & the Serpent are a pretty new artist to me. After spending a while listening to their music, I really like the alternative pop with darker, heavier influences to create something that feels really unique. There's a lot of emotion in their music, and I think that's something plenty of Twenty One Pilots fans will connect with.
Hot Milk
I've been listening to Hot Milk for a few years now, so I was really happy to see them on the lineup. They've got so much energy, and I think there's potential to get one of the biggest reactions of the day outside of the headline set. If you're after a set that’s going to get you jumping, crowd surfing, and mosh pitting, this is definitely one to keep an eye on!
NxdiaNxdia is an artist who's been building a lot of momentum recently, with a sound that blends indie, alternative and pop influences. Songs like She Likes a Boy and Boy Clothes show off catchy hooks alongside some great songwriting. If you're someone who likes finding new music between the bigger acts, Nxdia is definitely worth adding to your list.
Mouth Culture
Mouth Culture was actually a discovery for me while looking through the lineup. I'd never heard of them before, but after checking out a few songs (and then a few more) I can definitely see why people have been talking about them in such high regard. They’ve been building themselves up the past few years and have got a really high energy alt rock/metal sound and I'm really excited to catch them live! They're another band I'll be making sure I catch on the day, and I think you should too!
Dead Pony
If you like your rock loud, unapologetic, and a little chaotic, Dead Pony should definitely be on your list. They recently released their EP ‘Eat My Dust!’ and it feels like a really exciting step forward for the four piece from Glasgow. They’ve already played some major UK festivals so I’m sure they’re excited to add All Points East to their tally. Almost as excited as we are to see them!
