Taken from their invigorating 2025 release ‘Songs From The Yonder’, amidst an album full of mostly up-tempo madness, “Tumbling Into Something” is the moment of calm that allows its listeners to catch their breath.

Of the track, Dan Heptinstall shares:

“I always feel Lorna’s voice shines on our ballad style tracks, and this track lends itself particularly well to her voice. It’s an optimistic song about tumbling fearlessly forward into life while acknowledging its beauty. It’s about surrendering to the uncertainties of life, and embracing the excitement of the ride. It’s also about new beginnings and second chances.”
Offering a more ambient and atmospheric arrangement than fans might usually expect from a Skinny Lister staple, the hallmark instruments are still all present and correct, albeit in soothing form. “The drums are played with bare hands rather than sticks, and the accordion in this case is used more to add mood than melody, played almost like a synth pad – it leans towards something that sounds a little more ‘Vangelis’ than traditional folk” adds Dan.

‘Tumbling Into Something’ follows the seafaring ‘Yorkshire Belle’, the fervent ‘Plough On’, and swaggering drinking song ‘Set Us Straight’ among the singles plucked from their acclaimed 2025 album. Teeming with themes of seafaring, travelling and drinking, ‘Song From The Yonder’ is a riotous, feel-good listen that already feels right at home in the Skinny cannon.

Written and recorded by Skinny Lister, the record was mastered at Abbey Road Studios by Frank Arkwright. Produced and mixed by Dan Heptinstall, its core tracks were recorded live, and left unedited, in an attempt to capture a ferocious live energy. The album is out now, via Xtra Mile Recordings, on coloured vinyl, CD and digital.

A glorious, riotous mix of chest-thumping anthems, shanty sing-a-longs and folk/punk classics, tempered by a some of the most tender and reflective songs the band have penned yet; Skinny Lister are now raring to play ‘Songs From The Yonder’ in the natural live setting for which it was intended.

With nine dates planned across the UK, kicking-off in Southampton’s 1865 (3 December) and finishing up at London’s Scala (12 December) for their annual festive bash. Of the upcoming tour Dan says:

“It’s been a great and busy year for Skinny – releasing our new album into the world – and we can’t wait to finish it off in style with our epic tour across Europe and the UK…  Expect a smattering of tracks from our latest album – as well as a whole bunch of live favourites. (You might even find us road testing a couple of brand new tracks!)... And of course Christmas officially begins at what’s now become our legendary annual London Christmas bash. Can’t wait to see a whole bunch of you there for the usual festive mayhem!”

Support for the shows will come from special guests Vandoliers and Claudia Kate. The dates are as follows:

Since 2009, Skinny Lister have been at the forefront of first-rate folk/punk in the UK. Making waves with the irrepressible energy of their debut album ‘Forge and Flagon’ in 2012, the London-formed crew went on to sign with Xtra Mile Recordings for the release of their classic second album ‘Down On Deptford Broadway’ (2014) and so beginning a partnership that has birthed a further four records with the label including ‘The Devil, The Heart, The Fight’ (2016), ‘The Story Is…’ (2019), ‘A Matter Of Life & Love’ (2021), ‘Shanty Punk’ (2024), and ‘Songs From The Yonder’ this year.

As the band’s career continues to see them passing the growing flagon of their experiences with every album and tour. They’ve led an endless parade gathering fans old and new, from the respected folk circuit to the riotous Download Festival, igniting pogoing mosh-pits at each. Over the past ten years they’ve travelled from rain-soaked London to the vast arteries of the USA, upgrading from narrow boat to Salty Dog Cruise, played huge tours across Europe and North America and headlined themselves across festivals, sweatboxes and ever-larger venues. Performing with some of music’s most tenacious live acts from Dropkick Murphys to Frank Turner, Boy George to Beans on Toast to The Bouncing Souls, not to mention reigniting their US fanbase with an epic tour across America with Flogging Molly in 2023; Skinny Lister’s formidable live rep more than proceeds them.
