Steel & Velvet
Orphan's Lament

Picture
Formed in Brittany a few years back by Johann Le Roux, Rouald Ballet-Baz and Jean-Alain Larreur, Steel & Velvet have come together to create a unique sound that is instantly recognisable as their own. Taking it their time to ensure every song is crafted to reflect the emotions of the artists, the trio have ensured that their signature sound runs through their 'People Just Float', a six track record that also features a short film directed by none other than Loïc Moyou.

Taken from the EP, is opening track and single 'Orphans Lament. Combined with the film, Le Roux's voice fits perfectly with the stunning visuals against the subtle guitar work that builds an atmosphere that envelops the senses.

The style is very much in a traditional folk style lament, a style that hits straight to the heart and is impossible to ignore. The scrape of each string and the small nuanced sounds that could easily get lost in a large production, really stand out as the heart and soul of the track, it wouldn't sound right without them.

They have worked extremely hard to get the sound just right and it really shows. It is totally immersive so be sure to take advantage of the nearly 5 minutes of soothing, thought provoking music provided by Steel & Velvet, by sitting down, putting down your phone and letting the band whisk your mind off to another place for just a moment or two.

The new EP is out right now so be sure to check it out.
