SUBTLE FORCES: Social Disconnection

Miami-based singer, songwriter and musician Eric Seralena, is the mastermind behind a new musical project called Subtle Forces, They've just released their first single, 'Social Disconnection', from the debut album White Light released back in May. As its title suggests, this alternative rock/grunge single is heavily inspired by the sounds of the 90s. The single 'Social Disconnection' doesn't shy away from some pretty comples themes, from isolation, technology, social media to a dystopian political landscape.
Starting off with some nice acoustic guitar work and light percussion elements it builds towards a luscious bassline that adds not just a solid backbone, but real depth to the track, (I might be biased here as I am a sucker for a bit of bass). With that warm bass line at the core of the song and melodic lines that are delivered with gentle dynamics in a low key style, the single has a nostalgic 90’s alternative rock vibe about it that gives 'Social Disconnection' a familiar edge which is very appealing.

Amazingly, the entire White Light album was written, recorded and mixed in Eric Seralena’s bedroom studio, utilizing full analogue instrumentation. It is thanks to that production style that the song has a warm, live quality to it, a nice touch.
This track is an excellent starting point to explore the music by Subtle Forces and the debut album White Light. The album is a great blend of melodic alternative rock and good production to the songs. Most importantly, it’s a celebration of the music from the 90’s, that Eric grew up with.
