Swedish artist Gaeya is getting ready to release their second EP, 'Growth', which is due for release on the 19th of June. The date was chosen by Gaeya to coincide with Midsummer celebrations. The EP follows on from her acclaimed 2021 debut, Awakening, that saw Gaeya look at the evolution of human consciousness, and with Growth, she turns the subject to transformation, and it is a four track record of gloriously powerful and uplifting music that connects with the soul on a very primal level.
You can already hear the lead single from the EP, 'Higher Ground', which was released on April 30th to mark Walpurgis Night, the ancient Nordic spring fire festival. It blends ethereal synths with a tribal rhythm centred around Gaeya's enchanting vocals, which call for positive change. The video for the single was filmed in Tenerife on Mount Teide, and the backdrop of the volcanic landscape there fits in perfectly with the subject of transformation. Here is what Gaeya had to say about it:
“Fire is one of the most powerful forces of transformation,” Gaeya begins. “By burning away the old, we create fertile ground from the ashes—soil rich with the nutrients needed for what is yet to come. This is why ‘Higher Ground’ is released during the ancient spring fire festival—known as Walpurgis Night, Beltane, or Valborg—a sacred turning point between the spring equinox and the summer solstice. A time to welcome the light and set intentions for the future.
Reconnecting with these ancient traditions brings us back into rhythm with nature’s cycles, helping us better understand our cycles of growth—both as individuals and as a collective. We are living through a time of profound transformation. Humanity stands at a threshold.
For me, ‘Higher Ground’ is about facing what no longer belongs. It is about having the courage to move through fear – to release the past, to let go, and step forward onto new ground. Even in the darkest moments, whether in the world or within ourselves, we always have a choice. A choice to release what is no longer aligned with our path. A choice to turn toward what is good. To choose love. To choose something new.”

Gaeya describes her sound as 'Earth Music', blending electronic pop, primal vocals and Nordic mysticism. She has created a unique and distinctive sound that draws on her Nordic roots and blends tradition with contemporary techniques, and the result is quite spectacular. A great achievement, especially considering that music isn't the only feather in Gaeya's cap. Alongside her music, she founded the WE ARE NATURE Festival and the FIND Foundation, an initiative focused on rewilding, regenerative practices, and the protection of Indigenous lands and cultures.
