Wearside band Swindled
shine a green light on child protection with new Christmas single and Sunderland landmark illuminations

Sunderland band Swindled have helped raise awareness of the NSPCC this festive season through a combination of live music, a newly released Christmas single and the lighting up of iconic city landmarks in the charity’s signature green.

The band recently hosted a sold-out Christmas acoustic show at the historic and intimate Roker Watch House, raising just over £500 for the NSPCC through ticket donations, CD sales and online giving. The seaside venue provided a fitting backdrop for the stripped-back performance, which saw the band play songs from across their catalogue alongside new material and festive sing-alongs.

Building on the success of the live event, Swindled have now released their Christmas single “Christmas Night”, which is available on YouTube, with a donation link included to encourage further fundraising for the NSPCC.

This week also saw famous Sunderland landmarks lit up green in support of the charity, including Penshaw Monument and Fulwell Mill, helping to shine a spotlight on the importance of protecting children and young people. Fulwell Mill featured band members Jonny Swindle and Alex Winn, with striking images captured to mark the occasion.

Jonny Swindle, lead singer of Swindled, said: “Supporting the NSPCC is something we really care about. The show at Roker Watch House was special for us, but being able to follow that up with the release of ‘Christmas Night’ and seeing Sunderland landmarks lit up green has been incredibly powerful. If our music helps even one more person learn about the support available, it’s worth it.”

Guitarist Will Swindled added: “The support from people in Sunderland has been amazing. From coming to the show, buying CDs, donating online and sharing the single, it shows what can happen when a community comes together for a good cause.”

Hayley Lynn, NSPCC North East Fundraiser, said: “We are extremely grateful to Swindled for their continued support and creativity in raising awareness of the NSPCC. The funds raised, alongside the visibility created through the single release and landmark light-ups, help us reach more people and continue our vital work supporting children across the North East, particularly at Christmas.”

The NSPCC relies on public support to continue protecting children and young people. Donations can be made via the link on Swindled’s “Christmas Night” video on YouTube, and by supporting future fundraising initiatives shared on the band’s social media channels.
